COLLEGE ENTRANCE AND ACHIEVEMENT TESTING

All post-secondary testing use the same School Code Number: 111826

PSAT: Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test is designed for sophomores and juniors to become more familiar with the SAT. Students receive results that will aid in test taking skills and decision making regarding college admissions. SAT scores may be estimated based on the PSAT results. National Merit Scholarship Corporation uses the PSAT to award scholarships to juniors with outstanding scores. The PSAT is administered one Tuesday. Registration and fees, if any, are announced on the Daily Announcements.

SAT/ACT: Many out-of-state and most Georgia post-secondary schools will accept both the SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) and the ACT (American College Test). One of the tests is required for admission to most colleges/universities and many technical schools. Students should verify a test preference by checking the college's catalog. Test registration is the responsibility of the student. All materials are available in the counseling office. Juniors are encouraged to take at least one of these tests in the spring. Seniors should register for the earliest possible test dates in the fall.  Return to main counseling page for additional information regarding the NEW SAT.

SAT II: SAT achievement tests are not required by all colleges or universities. Consult the college for clarification on which of the tests, if any, are required. Usually the college will specify choice. SAT II is administered on specific SAT test dates. Check the SAT registration booklet and mail within the deadline. Seniors should take the SAT II no later than the January test date, if at all possible.

AP SUBJECT TESTS: If you take an AP class (Advanced Placement), the exams may give you college credit. It is up to the college to make this decision.
