ACADEMIC GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING
Counselors are available by appointment to assist students with an academic concern. In addition, several specific services are provided to assist in the academic area:
-
Counselors meet with freshmen in classroom guidance sessions during the second semester to help each complete a tentative four year plan of study. A sample plan is in the Choice Book, issued last spring.
-
Counselors present several classroom guidance sessions regarding academic programs, diploma options, PSAT and SAT/ACT, colleges, scholarships, military, technical schools, job preparation, etc.
-
In fall semester, each senior
will complete a copy of this form. A Senior Application for Graduation, which outlines remaining
graduation requirements, will be completed. A copy is mailed to the parents in
the first week in December.
-
Counselors meet with students by referral from parent and/or teachers regarding academic difficulties. Several options are available to assist students in this area:
-
Weekly Progress Reports are available.
-
Policy regarding parents request for weekly reports:
-
When parents request a weekly report for their child, teachers comply with one of two options:
-
Require that the student give the teacher a form to be completed or a written request for a copy of the computerized grade report on Thursday. Teacher then gives the student the report in class on Friday.
-
If parents have email, they may send each teacher a request each Thursday so that the teacher can reply to the request with a summary of weekly progress on Thursday or Friday. A student should give the report to his/her teacher on Thursday and collect the report on Friday. It is the responsibility of the student to use these.
