A SUMMARY OF GENERAL POST-SECONDARY INFORMATION

Admission to College, University, or Technical School: Admission is dependent upon you furnishing personal information to the post-secondary institution when requested. Admission is contingent on the application arriving before deadline and is dependent on you meeting the college admission criteria. This is the responsibility of the student.

Applications: Many instate applications can be found in the Career Room. All applications can be obtained by writing or calling the post-secondary institution or you may apply online.

Thoroughly complete all admission applications in ink, attach required checks and photographs, include transcripts and mail directly to the post-secondary institution. The student should leave $2.00 and a completed Transcript Request Form with Mrs. Stromie, Counseling Office. You may collect your transcripts and test scores usually the following day.

Applications should be filed as early as possible, preferably before Thanksgiving holidays. Check application deadlines. Checks are to be made payable to the post-secondary school. Include student's name and social security number on each check.

DO NOT wait for SAT or ACT scores to return to you. Housing may be based on the date your application is received in the admissions office. Many colleges and universities will not accept SAT/ACT scores from the high school. Forms are available for the student to request scores from the College Board to send official test results to the colleges. It is in the student's best interest to include post-secondary school codes on the SAT/ACT registration application. Official transcripts include SAT/ACT scores if you indicated Parkview's code (111826) on the SAT/ACT registration.

If letters of recommendation are required by the college, or institution, it is your responsibility to request teachers to write and mail the letters directly. Suggestion: prepare a list of all achievements and activities in grades 9-12 to be mailed with applications. Provide a stamped envelope. Counselor recommendation letters and forms are never returned to the students.

Financial Aid: There is a financial aid meeting for seniors and their parents during first semester. Other high schools will also host meetings. Dates, times, and locations will be in the Senior Update and Panther Pause newsletters. Generic financial aid forms are available in the counseling office in January. Georgia Student Finance Authority (GSFA) provides free help with the FAFSA: Atlanta number: (770) 414-3000.

Scholarships and Aid: Request from the Director of Student Assistance of the post-secondary school in which you are interested information and applications for grants, loans, scholarships, work-study, and co-op programs. Applications are separate from the admissions form. All scholarships are announced during the daily announcements posted in the Career Room. Applications are available in the Career Room and on the Parkview web site. Monthly senior updates are distributed to students through LA classes.

College/Technical School Visitation: Parents should accompany students on all visits. Call or write the admissions office for individual appointments. If your visit must be on a school day, prearranged excuses are required through the attendance office.

Technical School Opportunities: Georgia has many fine technical schools offering specialized training in a number of fields. The cost of attending many of these institutions is modest because of state and federal subsidizing. For most students, tuition will be free under the Georgia HOPE Grant. Catalogs and information are available in the Career Room.
