RESOURCES AVAILABLE

Counselors are available to parents by appointment or telephone to discuss their child's academic or personal concerns. Parents are encouraged to call the student’s teacher to discuss any concerns about that class. In addition, several resources may be useful to parents in assisting with their child's high school progress:

  1. Choice Book: a publication distributed to students in the spring by Gwinnett County Schools. This booklet provides specific information about diploma requirements, testing, honors programs and college/career planning. It also contains a sample "Tentative Four Year Plan" identical to the form completed by freshman. A brief description of each course offered in the curriculum is included.
  2. Tentative Four Year Plan: is completed by all freshmen. This is done during classroom guidance with the assistance of the counselors. It provides a general guide for course work to be completed during all four years of high school. This plan should be kept by the student as a resource, updating and changing it as needed.
  3. Tutor List: Contact the subject area teachers first for information on tutors. The counseling Secretary has a list of private tutors in this area. Parkview High School does not recommend or endorse any of the tutors. These names are provided as a service. Parents and students are responsible for payments of services.
  4. Outside Counseling Agencies: A list of agencies can be provided as a service. It is the responsibility of the parents or student to pay the fees for these services. Parkview does not endorse any agency or individual. Parents or students should talk with their insurance carriers and medical offices for referrals and benefits.
  5. All schedule change requests are considered ONLY by Mrs. Jan Wyche, Assistant Principal of Instruction. Her number is (770) 806-3823.
  6. Progress Reports: Each six week period, students receive a Progress Report from each teacher. These are to be signed by parents and returned to the teacher. These dates are announced through the Parkview Newsletter, Panther Pause, and are in the Student Handbook.
  7. Weekly Progress Reports: For those parents and students who feel a more frequent progress report is needed, a Weekly Report may be requested from each teacher.  The reports may provide early warning that extra help is needed.
  8. The Student Handbook describes events, school rules and regulations. A calendar lists all important events.
  9. Panther Pause: School newsletter provides up-to-date information on events and activities.
  10. Junior Update and Senior Update are distributed by Mrs. Todd. Topics include scholarships, college research information and financial aid opportunities.
