GOVERNOR'S HONORS PROGRAM

GHP is a six week, all expenses paid, educational experience for students to explore areas of interest in a unique summer program. Sophomores and juniors are nominated in academic, fine arts or technical areas. A student must have an overall 3.0 GPA and a 4.0 GPA in the subject area of nomination. If the student succeeds through a series of tests, interviews and auditions on the county and state levels he/she will be invited to participate in this very challenging and rewarding program. The PSAT is mandatory for participation in the selection process.

GEORGIA SCHOLARS PROGRAM

The Georgia Legislature must annually fund this prestigious scholarship opportunity. Students who are selected as Georgia Scholars are eligible to receive a scholarship if they continue their education in an approved public or private college/university in Georgia. Meeting the criteria does not guarantee selection. The criteria for application is set each year by the Legislature. Application is usually in February. The requirements as specified last year are as follows:

  1. 1360 SAT or 31 ACT score
  2. Earned 22 units of credit in four years including:
    • *3 units in science (of which 1 unit must be in chemistry or physics)
    • *4 units in math (of which 1 unit must be in Algebra II)
    • *3 units in social studies (including economics, citizenship, world history and U.S. History)
    • *4 units in English language
    • *2 units of foreign language.
  3. The student will have pursued academic study in visual art, music, dance, theater or other art areas.
  4. In all work taken in grades 9-12, the student either has maintained a 3.75 average on a 4.0 scale OR ranks in the upper 10% of the graduating class.
  5. The student has maintained 95% attendance in grades 9-12.
  6. During grades 9-12, the student has participated in three interscholastic events OR has achieved significant recognition in interscholastic events.
  7. The student has assumed leadership in at least two extracurricular activities sponsored by the school.
  8. The student is registered to vote if he/she is 18 years old.
  9. The student shows evidence of self-esteem and concern for others in day-to-day activities.
  10. The student has assumed leadership in youth activities outside the school.
