What is DECA?

 

Over 150,00 high school students in 5,000 chapters, located in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Korea, and Puerto Rico benefit every year from DECA. 

   DECA helps students:

*  Develop exceptional leadership and business skills beyond what the classroom can provide.

*  Explore a variety of career fields, such as fashion, finance, marketing, hospitality & tourism, sports & entertainment, and entrepreneurship.

*  Network with business people who can influence and extend your future career possibilities..

*  Excel and be recognized in international recognition in competitive events.

*  Create friendships with people from all across North America and beyond at career/leadership conferences, held in exciting locations.

*  Expand your resume and build a college application that will put you at the top of everyone's list.

What is DECA?

Region Champs Four Years In A Row!!!!!

 

This past February, Parkview DECA placed FIRST in the region, taking the streak to FOUR years in a row! There were 42 winners total out of the 21 categories.  Fourteen of these winners were first place.  The categories for those 1st place finishes were Accounting Applications, Apparel and Accessories Associate Level, Business Services Marketing, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Retail Marketing, Business Speech, Job Interview, Marketing and Business Fundamentals, and Marketing Management.  The overall points awarded to each chapter at Region were as follows:

 

State Competition - Atlanta, GA

At the state level competition, seventeen students placed in the top in their categories, which qualified them to attend the International Collegiate Development Conference in Orlando, FL.  Parkview had seven first place state winners, two seconds, and four thirds.  The categories of the 1st place winners were Apparel and Accessories Management Level, Job Interview, Business Services Marketing, and Marketing and Business Fundamentals.

 

International Collegiate and Development Conference - Atlanta, GA

A total of nineteen students qualified to attend ICDC in Orlando, FL last May.  Students competed at an international level, as well as attended the Senior Management Institute to further develop marketing and leadership skills.  Students were able to network with many internationally known companies and meet other marketing students from all over the United States.

 

A Few Interesting Facts for 2006-2007

*  DECA was one of the largest student organizations at Parkview, with 135 paid members last year.

*  Marketing students sold $27,000 in cheesecakes and cookie dough in their fall sales project.

*  Marketing students designed the Parkview Relay for Life T-shirts were sold to faculty and students.

*  Parkview DECA had a team participate in the walk at Relay for Life.

*  Marketing students designed the Parkview vs. Brookwood game T-shirts that were sold to faculty and staff promoting school spirit.

*  DECA participated in the Bowling for Breath fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis.

*  The marketing lab employees sold "Boo Grams" at Halloween for the 5th year straight.

*  Parkview DECA had 24 students that participated in the Annual Fall Leadership Conference.

*  Parkview DECA held a car wash at Chick-fil-A to raise funds for ICDC and made $1200 in one day!

*  Parkview DECA was able to raise enough money to pay for all ICDC attendees to travel all expenses paid.

*  Fashion marketing students created a new fad at Parkview last fall, clipping a colored paper clip on their shirts.
