Careers in Education Application
Course Overview:
The
Careers In Education course is a
yearlong course for students who
are interested in pursuing a
career in the education field.
The course allows students to
learn about and explore the
field of education through
curriculum taught in class, and
also gaining valuable “hands-on”
experience while working in
cluster elementary and middle
schools.
Students must
apply for the Careers In
Education class. In addition,
students must have an overall
“B” average and recommendations
from other teachers.

This curriculum is taught
through current educational
publications, class discussion,
guest speakers, projects,
journaling, cooperative
learning, and several other
methods.
Field
Experiences:
Some components of the shadowing
and field experiences include:

Students
gain invaluable teaching
experience.
·
Students
are evaluated by their Careers
In Education teacher as well as
evaluated by the teacher they
are shadowing.
·
Students
engage in activities such as:
creating bulletin boards,
writing lesson plans, and daily
journal entries. Students work
with individual students, groups
of students, and practice
teaching lessons to the whole
class.
·
Students create a
detailed portfolio including a
resume for a teaching position,
references, philosophy of
education, sample lesson plans,
pictures, summary of overall
experience, and more.
