NEWS: The current textbooks that were adopted in Science have some great options for both students and teachers. Many of the courses have textbook questions that are available through an Internet service called Web Assign. You may be hearing from your science teacher that you have an opportunity to use Web Assign. This service will give students immediate feedback while doing their homework. It will also allow multiple submissions, so that students have an opportunity to learn from their mistakes. This is an optional service with a cost of $8.80 per student. This will cover the entire year. The student can complete assignments from any computer with Internet access; from home, school, public library, etc. We hope you find this a useful application of technology.
The science department at Parkview currently consists of 19 teachers in the fields of biology, chemistry and physics. The required courses for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are taught from the technical level to the gifted honors level. Advanced Placement courses in the three disciplines are available as well as Anatomy and Physiology, Astronomy, and Forensic Science. A major emphasis of the department is to encourage students to use science process skills as well as to learn scientific facts. Technology, such as computers interfacing with probes, calculator-based labs, computer software, SMARTboards, and flex-cams are just some of the ways that technology is incorporated into the classroom instruction. Listed above are the courses offered for each grade, as well as electives which can be taken during the juniors and senior year.
It is the goal of the science department that this web site be an active one for students, parents and teachers alike. Teachers will have the option of including on their web pages: homework, syllabi, additional problems, links, etc. Click on the highlighted text for more information on the course your child is taking. Not all courses are active yet.
