New to Track? The athletes have been training hard for about a month now and it's finally time for our first meet. If you are new to track, it may be a little confusing to understand when exactly an athlete competes. Unless otherwise stated, a typical track meet follows the schedule below:
The field events, which include the jumps (high, long, triple, pole vault) and the throwing event (discus, shot put), will typically begin first and continue on throughout the track meet. Usually one event is run right after the other but the time that each event takes will depend on the number of athletes participating. Obviously, on a six-lane track, only six athletes can compete in the 100m Dash at a time so it is typical that there will be several heats run for that event before the next event is run. For this reason, it is sometimes hard to gauge the exact schedule of a track meet. |
