Volunteer Parkview

Who We Are:

Volunteer Parkview, formerly the Interact Club, is a community service organization on campus devoted to making a difference in our school, our community, and our world.  This group is open to all Parkview students—there are no membership requirements.  Students do not have to maintain a certain gpa, be in a certain grade, or complete a certain number of service hours.

To sign up for projects, come to our monthly meeting (normally the third Thursday) or see Ms. Henderson in room 11.103.

Next meeting--October 1st, 2:20 to 3:00 in the cafeteria

This month's projects:

All Tuesdays--Mountain Park Elementary needs 2 students each Tuesday to help supervise teachers' children during staff meetings from 3:00 to 4:00

All weekday afternoons from 3:00 to 5:00--the DreamHouse for Medically Fragile Children needs help answering phones and handling mail at their office on 124 in Snellville

Friday, Oct. 9--Lilburn Daze set up from 2:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (2 hour shifts)

Saturday, Oct. 10--Lilburn Daze at Lilburn Park from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (2 hour shifts)

Saturday, Oct. 10--"It Won't Happen to Me" walk-a-thon at Chastain Park from 8 a.m. to noon

Saturday, Oct. 17--Lilburn Park clean up from 9 a.m. to noon

Friday, Oct. 23--Miss Parkview pageant set up

Saturday, Oct. 24--Miss Parkview pageant (distributing programs and cleaning up)

Long-Term Projects:

HOSTS Mentoring at Lilburn Middle School--Arrange to tutor students after school one day a week.  Contact Ms. Connie Davis at (678)-380-7221or connie_davis@gwinnett.k12.ga.us for more information.

Parkwood Farms Therapy Center--

Parkwood Farms Therapy Center is a hippotherapy (horseback riding therapy) center for children with disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsey, Down Syndrome, etc.  The children will learn to groom the horses, the parts and types of horses, and how to do stable chores.  They will have the opportunity to ride the horses and play games on horseback.

Art Without Boundaries:Atlanta Art for Elders is the local chapter of the "Art Without Boundaries" organization, which helps senior citizens with Alzheimer's and others of dementia create works of art as a form of therapy.  If you are interested in working with this program, visit http://www.artwithoutboundaries.org or contact Ms. Tia Severino at tiaartangels.yahoo.com.  The program is looking for students to be day volunteers (a 4-hour commitment) and ongoing volunteers.

Blak Diamond Boutique, Inc: The Blak Diamond Boutique, Inc. is a non-profit organization that takes donated formal wear (prom and graduation clothes) that can be refurbished and given to teenagers who otherwise would not be able to afford clothes to go to such events.  If you are interested in donating a dress or suit, contact blakdiboutique.yahoo.com.
