Course Title and Description
French III, Honors. The objective of this course is to develop fluency in the five basic skills of communication in French: listening, understanding reading, speaking and writing in order to promote an appreciation and understanding of the French-speaking people, their culture and civilization.
As this is an Honors level class, students are expected to be self-directed in regards to practice work/homework. Class time will be spent on instruction and enrichment activities.
This class is a continuation of French 2 with a deeper understanding of the language and culture. It is designed to allow students to understand more complex written text and verbal material and to communicate verbally and in writing at a higher level of proficiency. There will be a variety of classroom activities including, but not limited to, listening to French-language tapes, viewing videos, listening to French music, completing written exercises, completing work in groups, groups and individual projects.

3-ring binder (1½-2”rings) notebook and regular ruled notebook paper
1 set (10) tabbed section dividers
1 large supply of 3 x 5 index cards (500)
1 bi-lingual dictionary (highly recommended)
1 box of tissue
1 highlighter and black dry erase marker
Chapters to be Covered:
First semester: Review- chapter 3
Second semester: Chapters 4-6, and some supplementary literature.
Grading Procedure:
Daily Work: homework, quizzes, in-class work, skits 50%
Test: tests, participation, projects 30%
Final Exams 20%
Grading Scale:
A = 90-100, B = 80-89, C = 74-79, D = 70-73, F = 0-69
Grading Procedure for Written and Spoken Evaluations:
I will be using SWELL, which is an objective assessment tool for written and spoken performances. Students will receive a copy of the rubric prior to these evaluations.
