| My Philosophy of Teaching and Learning I believe that education is the key that opens many doors leading to success. In life we all learn through our experiences and relationships. As an educator, my greatest aspiration is to have my students realize the importance of learning and to view the world as their classroom. I believe that I am not a vessel of knowledge from which students are to drink, but a leader and mentor that guides them on a path to seek truth and knowledge. I acknowledge my students as individuals, special and unique by their personal, cultural, and social experiences. Students formulate their own understanding of information through the classroom experiences and environment. I believe that every child has the capacity to learn and is entitled to an equitable education. By setting high standards attainable by all students I will inspire and empower them to be successful. I will develop positive and professional relationships with my students that will allow us to learn from each other because I am their teacher as much as they are mine. My goal is to prepare my students to become life long learners. For some students, certain mathematical concepts may not be used outside the classroom, but the mental exercise of critical thinking and problem solving is crucial to making effective decisions in life. In the learning process it is important that students develop a sense of pride in themselves, the work they do, and the opinions they possess. The learning environment of my classroom will embrace the uniqueness of all my students and allow them to openly express their mathematical ideas through dialogue and discussion. Creating a positive atmosphere where students feel safe and are respected will optimize student learning and achievement.
