Georgia Tech University Conference

October 8 & 9, 2007

On October 8 & 9, Parkview’s Model United Nations (PHSMUN) team participated in the Georgia Tech Model United Nations Conference 2007 in Atlanta, GA.  The Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at the Georgia Institute of Technology hosts the annual conference.

Parkview’s crack team of international experts successfully represented the country of Mongolia.  PHSMUN President William Tran, Vice-President Jessica Drun, Secretary Mary Ye and Treasurer Bixi Fu accompanied by members, James Bunkley, Ryan McLaren, Siddhartha Penakalapati and Sanjay Srivatsan upheld Parkview’s traditional reputation as “the best school in the nation.”

This year’s keynote speaker at the conference was former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young.  President Jimmy Carter appointed Mr. Young as the United Nations Ambassador for the United States in 1977.  Today, Young is co-chairman of Good Works International a consulting firm "offering international market access and political risk analysis in key emerging markets within Africa and the Caribbean."  All of the PHSMUN members agreed that the speaker was enlightening and inspirational in relaying stories of his life’s devotion to the maintenance of peaceful international relations.

In February, the team will attend the UGAMUN conference at the University of Georgia and in March, they will participate in Kennesaw State’s KSMUN conference.  The faculty sponsor is Mrs. Charissa Crook and the club meets every Thursday after school in her classroom, 12.241.  New members are always welcome.

I am always available via e-mail or telephone for questions.   Charissa_Crook@gwinnett.k12.ga.us
