The mission of Gwinnett County Public Schools is to pursue excellence in academic knowledge, skills, and behavior for each student resulting in measured improvement against local, national, and world-class standards.

 

Course Description:  This is a two-semester course that studies specific past events, persons and cultures relating to the development of the United States of America.  The class will be taught and student progress assessed in accordance with the attached Gwinnett County Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) guidelines. *** This course has been modified for the student learning English as a second language.

  1. binder & loose leaf paper
  2. OR notebook
  3. organized system for keeping hand-outs
  4. pen or pencil

Grading Procedures:

Daily Class and Home Work                                               50%

Unit Exams, Written Assessments and Quizzes   30%

Gwinnett County Final Exam                                                20%

            (Finals:  12% multiple choice; 8% performance essay)

 

Scale:

90 to 100        A

80 to 89          B

74 to 79          C

70 to 73          D

below 70        Failure

 

 

 

Absences and Missed Work:

  1. Missed work, quizzes and tests may be made up for full credit only after an EXCUSED absence.
  2. Students are responsible for checking with the teacher for missed work and to schedule missed tests and quizzes due to absence.
  3. No graded work, tests or quizzes may be made up after an UNEXCUSED absence.
  4. Late work from a student who was present but who did not turn in work when it was due, will be accepted for ONE DAY past due date.  The student will receive a 10% grade penalty. (For example, a grade of 90% becomes an 81% if the work is turned in a day late.)
  5. Students missing more than 10 days of class may not receive credit for this class, subject to the administrative rules and regulations of Gwinnett County Public Schools.
