The mission of Gwinnett County Public Schools is to pursue excellence in academic knowledge, skills, and behavior for each student resulting in measured improvement against local, national, and world-class standards.

 

Course Description:  This is a two-semester course that studies regions of the world, including the physical landforms as well as cultural aspects.   The class will be taught and student progress assessed in accordance with the Gwinnett County Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) guidelines.  *** This course is modified for the student learning English as a second language.

 

 

The student in this class will acquire the following academic knowledge:

·        Elements of Geography

·        Comparing world Regions Human/Environment Interaction

·        Interaction of Physical and Human Systems in Southwest Asia/North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and East & Southeast Asia

 

The student in this class will acquire the following academic skills:

·        Map and Globe Skills

·        Information Processing Skills

 

 

Required Supplies:

  1. binder & loose leaf paper
  2. OR notebook
  3. organized system for keeping hand-outs
  4. pen or pencil

Grading Procedures:

Individual Daily Class Work and/or Home Work               50%

Unit Exams, Quizzes and Written Assessments               30%

Gwinnett County Final Exam                                                20%

(12% multiple choice – 8% performance essay)

 

 

 

Scale:

90 to 100        A

80 to 89          B

74 to 79          C

70 to 73          D

below 70        Failure

 

 

 

Absences and Missed Work:

  1. Missed work, quizzes and tests may be made up for full credit only after an EXCUSED absence.
  2. Students are responsible for checking with the teacher for missed work and to schedule missed tests and quizzes due to absence.
  3. No graded work, tests or quizzes may be made up after an UNEXCUSED absence.
  4. Late work from a student who was present but who did not turn in work when it was due, will be accepted for ONE DAY past due date.  The student will receive a 10% grade penalty. (For example, a grade of 90% becomes an 81% if the work is turned in a day late.)
  5. Students missing more than 10 days of class may not receive credit for this class, subject to the administrative rules and regulations of Gwinnett County Public Schools.
