Reading I

In Reading I, we will cover the materials in Steps 1-6 of the Wilson Reading System.    Skills we will cover include:

Step 1 Closed Syllables:  double consonants, suffix 's', glued or welded sounds, blends, digraphs

Step 2 Closed Syllables: glued or welded sounds, blends, closed syllable exceptions, 5 sounds in closed syllable + suffix 's', 3-letter blends

Step 3 Closed Syllables- Multisyllabic Words: 2-syllable words , 2-syllable words ending with -ct blend, 3-syllable words with only closed syllables, -ed & -ing suffixes

Step 4 Vowel-Consonant-e Syllables: vowel-consonant-e syllable in1-syllable words, combined with closed syllables, -ive exception (olive)

Step 5 Open Syllables:  in 1-syllable words, y as vowel (cry), combined with closed and vowel-consonant-e syllables, y as vowel at end of 2-syllable words (jelly), multisyllabic words with three syllable types, 'a' & 'i' in unaccented open syllables (extra, indicate)

Step 6  Suffix Endings & Consonant-l-e syllables: suffix endings (er, est, en, es, able, ish, y, ive, ly, less, ty, ness, ment, ful) added to unchanging basewords; suffix -ed says /d/, /t/;  combining 2 suffixes to unchanging basewords, consonant-l-e syllables (jungle, whistle)
