Policies and Procedures

CLASSROOM RULES:

You are a young adult and are expected to be responsible for yourself and your behavior.  Be RESPECTFUL to your classmates and me.  Responsibility and respect cover all the usual classroom rules…no food, sleeping, grooming, profanity, or hats etc.

In addition to these rules:

Students are not to get up while the teacher is talking and are to remain in their seat until the bell.  This includes sharpening pencils, depositing trash etc. before the bell rings.

Students are to come prepared to class everyday.  This includes bringing a (1) textbook, (2) notebook with paper, (3) calculator, (4) workbook, (5) graph paper and (6) pencil.

All students deserve an opportunity to learn in an attentive, educational environment; therefore, disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.

No complaining during class time.  You are encouraged to come to me with any concerns before or after class.  I would like for you to feel comfortable coming to me with your concerns, but class time is not the proper forum.

CALCULATORS:

  1. Students must have a calculator in class.  For Algebra 2 and Geometry, a graphing calculator is necessary.  A TI-83, TI-83 Plus or TI-84 is recommended.

NOTEBOOKS:

  1. Students should keep a 3-ring binder (at least 1 inch) for warm-ups, notes, homework assignments, tests, and quizzes.  Students should have dividers that we will use to create different sections in the notebook.  Notebook quizzes may be given.

CONSEQUENCES FOR LACK OF RESPONSIBLITY:

A.     Reminder, warning, or discussion with me

B.     Appointment with me. (detention)

C.     Parent contact and detention.

D.     Referral to Administration.

ATTENDANCE:

  1. According to county policy, any student who is absent more than 10 days in any one class in a semester may not receive credit for the class.

MAKEUP WORK:

  1. Please attend on test/quiz days if at all possible.
  2. When a student has an excused absence, he/she has five school days in which to complete all work missed.  Unexcused absences will result in zeros for missing work.  YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for getting all assignments and notes missed.  Makeup work should be done at the teacher’s convenience, outside the regular classroom period.  I will not take class time to discuss makeup work! Please check the calendar for assignments when you return.

TESTS AND QUIZZES:

  1. Tests will be announced a week in advance and quizzes will be announced at least two days in advance.  If you are absent the day before a test (review day), but have been in class prior to that, you will be expected to take the test on the original test date.

TARDIES:

A.  You are expected to be inside the classroom when the bell begins to ring.  The classroom door will be shut when the bell rings.  If you are late to class, you will need to report to the STAMP table to obtain a pass to enter class.

EXTRA HELP:

  1. Students should come in for extra help as soon as they begin having difficulty with the material.
  2. I am available in the mornings from 7:00-7:30 and after school (Tuesday-Friday) until 3:00.  Students should make an appointment with the teacher.

HOMEWORK:

  1. Students will be assigned homework daily and it should be completed for success in the course.
  2. Homework will be collected at random and will generally be graded on completion rather than correctness.  It is also possible that all homework assignments from a chapter will be collected on test day.  Quizzes may be given from homework assignments.  Quizzes will contain between five and ten questions and will be given the following day after the assignment is assigned.  Students must show work on all homework.  You must show REASONABLE WORK for credit.  An answer only, will get you 0 points.
  3. Late homework will only be accepted in the case of an excused absence.
  4. Cheating on homework will not be tolerated!

NOTES:

  1. Notes should be taken during lecture.  Notebook quizzes and pop quizzes from notes are possible.

CHEATING:

  1. Academic Honesty is taken very seriously in my classroom.  School guidelines for cheating will be followed, and students who cheat will be referred to an administrator.  This includes copying on tests and quizzes as well as daily assignments (including homework), plagiarism, and discussing test items with other students before or after a test.  Working together to study is encouraged, but you must turn in all assignments on an individual basis in your own thoughts and words.  If you are caught cheating or giving someone else your work to copy (even on homework) then you will receive a zero for the assignment and will be referred to an administrator.

HALL PASSES:

A.      Class time is very precious, so hall passes are for emergencies only.  Please take care of personal business before class!!!

TECHNOLOGY USE:

A.     Calculators may only be used at the teacher’s discretion and only for the purpose specified by the teacher. (No calculator games in class.)

B.     Some tests/quizzes or portions of a test may be given that are designated as no calculator.

C.     Students should not count on being able to borrow a calculator from the teacher on test day.  Each student should be responsible for bringing their own.

D.     Calculators may not be shared between students on tests/quizzes.

TEXTBOOKS:

A.     You are responsible for the textbook that you are issued.  If it is lost, stolen, or damaged, it does not matter if it was in your locker when it was lost or stolen, or if your friend borrowed it, you are responsible.  Do not leave your book lying around in my classroom.  I am not responsible for books that are left in my classroom.  Report any stolen books to the discipline office immediately.
