Midsummer Night’s Dream
Project Choices
Directions: Select one of the projects described below. This will be a major grade.
Due Date: Friday, May 11, 2007
1. Write a children’s version of the story (illustrated book or play script). Imagine an audience of five- to ten-year-olds. Include at least three pictures illustrating scenes from the play.
2. Rewrite a scene from the play using modern language and settings. Your scene must contain the same number of lines as the original. (Please note: if two or more students intend to do this project, those students need to coordinate who is doing which scene because students cannot rewrite the same scene.)
3. Write Shakespearean sonnets for each of the following characters, expressing the character’s personality or how he or she feels about a situation in the play. (To see examples of sonnets, look at pages 684-685 of the literature book.)
Hermia
Lysander Demetrius
Oberon Titania
Egeus Bottom
4. A group of four students or less can act out a scene from the play in class (live performance). Try to divide the parts so group members have fairly equal lines. A person may have more than one role, but you should use name tags or costume changes to make the different characters clear to the audience. I will expect you to ACT—movement, expressions, gestures, emotion, etc. Each missed line will count off, so memorization and rehearsal are imperative. (Please note: if two or more groups intend to do this project, the groups need to coordinate who is doing which scene because students cannot act out the same scene.)
